Comment #1:  If you have big hands and arthritis like me you might want to use larger tools in a bigger pouch, with the Altoids kit inside it. I use a Nite-Ize Pock-Its to carry a full sized Leatherman, Mini-Maglite, Magnesium Bar/Ferrocium Rod with a broken piece of hacksaw blade to make fire, Extra AA batteries and light bulbs, and a small fishing kit inside it. I have the little Swiss Tools folding screwdrivers and Pliers/Screwdriver Combo, Photon light, P-51 can opener(bigger version of p-38), and a AAA Mini-Maglite with the Mini Altoids Fishing Kit as a back up in pouch on a soft sided cooler that I take fishing. I like the idea that Shannon Smith had about the Otter Box too.

Comment #2:  One thing i have to say I made one and went and tried to use it let me tell you that b-day candles are useless even in a light wind they last for less than 5 mins and then your still sitting in the dark trying to work on what ever. that being said get a tea light candle yes its a little bigger but will burn for near an hour and dig a hole to put it down into if there is wind. ok so for a list Tea light candle, cordage, duck tape, ziploc bags for water, razer knife, fishing line with min of 2 hooks and sinkers, waterproof matches, black tape for band-aids, bullion cube, water tabs, match strikers, head ache power what ever kind, cotton balls to dip into the hot wax from the candle to make a fire with, and a mini keychain light is also good, and if you have room get a pack of fire starters from walmart (little compressed sawdust and oil sticks) and crush one up and put some in your kit for back up tinder that can get wet and still work. Hope this helps and try it out before you depend on it.

Comment #3:  I am not seeing the point of a survival kit so small it fits in a little Altoids box. I stuff as much stuff as I can into small pouches I buy at Army-Navy stores that have zippers and to water proof them I spray the pouch with scotchguard. Tinder goes in small film canisters. I keep a few starter sticks in a zip lock and the usual mag strikers, lighters, etc
