Factors when deciding on a hiking or camping spot

We posted on our Facebook page:

What factors do you consider when you are deciding on a hiking trail or camping spot?
Some comments we received:

Comment#1: Shade, vicinity to water (depending on still or moving water), remoteness to others, scenery, water drainage ability, distance to hunters, probable wildlife in vicinity.

Comment#2: Shade, privacy, peace & quiet, safe from flash flooding, good view of the stars.

Comment#3: I only winter camp in the Mountains, so I seek a flat area on the South side of the Hill, away from any trails, fairly close to a creek.

Comment#4: For camping, we decide on a place near water, with a great view, some privacy, a few trees for shade and something to tie the dogs to, but not too much so we can have a great fire without burning everything down.

Comment#5: High ground, access to water, leval good run off if rain comes, remote area, wild nature and a great place to fish…..or just go right behind the house its all right there….If any one is in the Statesville,North carolina area on saturday i will be having a survival training class on starting fiers and building shelters hope some of you can make it….
