Survival School

We posted on our Facebook page:

Karrie Peterson Brower asked below: “Has anyone attended a survival school and do you feel it was worth the money?”
Some comments we received:

Comment #1: I grew up in NW Montana, raised by Mountain Men. And Women who are tougher than the men…..BEST School, OLD School !!!

Comment #2: If you are new to this game and not around such people, yes. Go to a class or two. But like the others, the best teachers are those around you. Experienced historical reenactors are another good source of survival skills. They strive to learn everything they can about life skills of they chosen time period. Makes them better reenactors.

Comment #3: I grew up in a rural environment and a family of outdoorsmen. Studied and practiced primitive and survival skills all of my life… and STILL benefited greatly from my time with Marty Simon at the Wilderness Learning Center in Chateaugay, NY

Comment #4: There is so much good information available, it’s hard to imagine trying to pack your “money’s worth” into a short timeframe. My Vietnam-era boy scout experience/training was a good start. It didn’t hurt that 80% of my

scout leaders were recently retired career military men. Developing it over the 35+ years by taking “Be Prepared” to heart, and from a pride of accomplishment in learning a worthwhile skillset. Many states’ Fish & Game or DNR offices have free or inexpensive weekend events.
