EMP & a Pacemaker

Comment #1: Yes. An EMP can have an effect on a CPM. In an older model, you’re not likely to notice anything. In newer models, there are still questions regarding just how much of an impact an EMP may have on the chip.
Comment #2: Basically anything that can carry an electric current will be fried by a large enough EMP. We are due for a pretty big solar generated one soon. So keep backup electronics shielded! I think standard ammo boxes should prove effective.
Comment #3: An EMP would be unlikely to affect a pacemaker. There is a great podcast on iTunes (look up Doctors for Disaster Preparedness) about EMP. The speaker is a scientist that used to work for the military testing equipment (from office equipment to destroyers) with a EMP generator. He stated that small devices, like cellphones, would be unlikely to be affected by an EMP. However, since the larger cell network would be fired the phone still would not work. If the individual cell phones would work, I can’t see why a pacemaker shielded by your body wouldn’t.
