Solar lights for power outages

Check out the tip Jessica Belcher posted below, thanks Jessica! “Okay, ya’ll….as most of you know we have had a HORRIBLE Friday night resulting in power outages EVERYWHERE. We were among those w/o power. My husband thought of using our solar lights during the night and putting them back outside during the day, which I thought was pretty clever. I’m sure this has been done but I’ve never heard anyone talking about it or read anything about it. (This would also work really well when camping)”
Some comments we received:
Comment#1: I use the fence post topper style for our camping outings. They sit on top of the table during the day and inside at night because of the flat bottom. But, yes, great idea to have on hand for camping or power outages alike. Plus they are relatively inexpensive and can keep smaller ones in your BOBs.
Comment#2: We bought some cheap-o ones from Walmart and used them to light the light trip hazards while camping. We also used one as a night light for my son. They were red, white, and blue with stars and stripes. They ran $1.50ea and will probably find their way to clearance after tomorrow. Great idea to bring up Jessica!
Comment#3: In the same situation, a few hundred feet of garden hose laid out in the yard can provide hot shower and bathing water. It will reheat surprisingly fast. Learned this during the tornado outbreak in north Alabama last year, we were without power for a week and a half.
Comment#4: I have colored ones that I put outside our tents when we camp with the Scouts. My son has a blue one and I have a pink one. Makes finding our tents when we get up at night so much easier.
