Urban Survival Tip: Rope

We posted on our Facebook page:

Check out Jason Arriens’s urban survival tip and his story. What’s your best tip? “I used a piece of thin rope (like paracord) to replace a broken shoulder strap for a small bag I use to carry my GPS, compass, and other Geocaching materials. The rope came in handy one day while walking around when I came across a stray dog. I was able to make a dog leash and collar and walk him to a near by park where I got him some fresh clean water and feed him with some dog food that I keep in my car. I was able to then take him to a Dog rescue shelter. Someone was tired of the dog and left him in the park to fend for himself. He didn’t have a collar or a microchip. I could tell from the moment I saw him he was a sweetheart and very thirsty and hungry and scared of being left in the park alone. We named him George for the short time we had him. I have since used the rope for other things including replacing a broken shoe lace while I was hiking doing Geocaching and even while taking pictures when I wanted to temporary move some branches out of a picture i wanted to get.”

Some comments we received:

Comment#1: Random act of kindness to rescue that poor dog! You never know when something so simple will come in so handy.

Comment#2: I always carry in my car 2″ silk medical tape. One day my car was acting up and getting hot. So I lifted the hood and the radiator hose had a split about 3 inches long. I got out the tape and figured it would get me to a repair shop that tape held that hose for 3 years. Its like medical duct tape, its great for all kinds of repairs. I keep smaller size in my bob first aid kit its great.
